"If you compare yourself with others,

you may become vain and bitter;

for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,

be gentle with yourself."

“All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renewed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.”

First of all, it's been raining for two days now and it's going to keep raining. I think rainy days are cozy (if you're lucky enough to be inside, that is), but of course I somehow misplaced my umbrella... bummer! Oh well. I'm still enjoying the rain because I can study for final exams inside without being lured outside by the sunshine! Anyway, David Plouffe came to speak to the Goucher College community a week ago (April 27th), and I attended with three of my friends, with bells on! I want to remember his talk, so I decided to write a little account of it. My overall impression was very positive.

Civic Literacy

0 min read
I can't believe that elected officials scored lower than average citizens who took this American civic literacy quiz: http://www.americancivicliteracy.org/2008/additional_finding.html I took the quiz and actually did pretty well. Citizens are important, of course, but shouldn't elected politicians really score higher than citizens on something like this?
